PROGRAM OVERVIEW
W2A programs are designed to connect newly arrived immigrants to services and resources that would help ease their integration in America. Our weekly orientation presents a general overview of the organization and conduct an interview with candidates to establish their respective needs, including literacy level and education qualification to determine the appropriate steps of action.

HEAlthcare
HealthCare – A workshop on health and wellness and preventive care for the whole family. An in depth workshop on the Affordable Care Act – Obama Healthcare Reform. Information will be provided on available health plans, cost implications, and choosing a provider that’s familiar with African immigrants culture and religion vis a vis healthcare. WTA will screen and enroll people on site.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: HOUSING, IMMIGRATION, LAW ENFORCEMENT
In response to growing cases of tenants being threatened by ICE with deportation and harassed because of their perceived/actual immigration status, the Commission is hosting a series of housing panel and resources presentations to educate New York City residents. Immigration status is one of the leading causes of fear of filing complaints. This year’s housing event is in collaboration with MOIA, MOPT, NYCDSS, NYCHPD, African International Collaborative Center, unLocal, African Life Center, Welcome 2 Africa, Africans Help Desk, Catholic Charities, DSI International, Inc., and African Communities Together (ACT). In addition, all the panel presentations will be provided/ facilitated in different languages.
THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM
The American Public School System – A workshop on how to place a child in the right public school. How to understand the public school grading operating system. The importance of parent/teacher partnership and PTA meeting attendance to your child’s academic and overall achievement.
